OUR CALL: Church Historical Site Missionaries, Palmyra, New York

Our mission started October 26th, 2009. As we entered the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, we were nervous and excited. Little did we know then what absolute joy and blessings were ahead of us. This is our story through words and pictures of some of our special experiences as we serve in the "Cradle of the Restoration". Walking Sacred ground everyday and teaching and testifying of what we know to be true. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored to earth in this the latter days, and we humbly strive to do our part as directed by the Spirit of the Lord through prayer, service, obedience, and love.

Sacred Grove Tour with Bob Parrott, the caretaker of the Grove

This was a great morning! 3 Missionary Couples went on a special 3 hour tour of the Grove with Bob Parrott. He is the caretaker of the Grove. There was an article written about him recently in the Church News. He is a GEM of a guy! He loves the grove and although not a member....he knows that Joseph saw the Father and the Son here. He walks through the grove everyday checking out the trees, plants and life that makes up this sacred grove. He has restored the grove back to the "ancient" forest it is suppose to be. It is alive with new growth and home to many birds, and small animals. He pointed out 6 trees that are over 250 years old. These are called witness trees because they were here to witness the First Vision. The old "Apostle" tree stands bare of leafs, but a wonderful reminder of this sacred event. It's about 320 years old and kept standing to show it's 12 branches. Bob had a special love for President Hinckley. He shared many wonderful stories of his work and special experiences he has had during the 12 years he has been in this position. His family lived next to the Smith Farm growing up.
